Naku te rourou nau te rourou
ka ora ai te iwi.
With your basket and my basket the people will live.
Kia Ora.
I am Ruth Schlüter,
My first name is pronounced “Ruut”.
I was born and bred in the North of Germany near the Danish Border.
In 2001 I packed a suitcase, traveled, came to New Zealand and happily ended up staying to live and work in my home of choice: Aotearoa.
I am an overseas trained Occupational Therapist with registration in New Zealand for over 13 years now.
I have over 18 years of professional work experience within Germany and New Zealand in clinical and private settings such as:
- Neurorehabilitation (Stroke, MS, Guillain-Barre-Syndrome, ALS)
-Orthopaedics and Rheumatology (ADL training, joint protection, adaptive equipment, home modifications)
-Paediatric Private Practice for children and young teenagers in need of developmental support, sensory integration, motor planning, attention training, self-esteem or self-awareness and daily life participation
-Private Practices for treatment of developmentally delayed, neurological, orthopaedic, autistic, mentally impacted, cognitively impaired or intellectually challenged clients.
-Mental Health Service for children and adolescents with emotion regulation difficulties, ADHD, behavioural challenges or school anxiety.
-General Mental Health to support clients to manage daily demands and routines
-Psychogeriatrics for older people with dementia and depression
I have specialised training in sensory integration/modulation, cognitive rehabilitation, attention & concentration training, graphomotor skills (writing), Bobath, Affolter, Perfetti and “The Incredible Years” parent programme.
I love being an occupational therapist. I therefore offer enthusiasm and motivation next to a wide range of treatment options, competence and experience, as well as dedication, creativity and fun.
I am excited about my private service to support people, who are not eligible for treatment in the public services or who wish to bridge over the waiting time for government funded programmes or who are unable to attend appointments outside their home.
My approach is strength based and client-centred. I work in partnership and I focus on the presenting problems and plan intervention according to the goals of client and family,
I strongly believe in early intervention, practical hands-on and the importance inclusion of family/ whanau inclusion.
My aim is to pack individual suitcases in partnership for each client’s independence, self help, well being and quality in life.
